General Info:

Drink in the scenery of Norway’s famous fjords, then lay claim to three of Scotland’s four island groups—Shetland, Orkney, and Outer Hebrides. Stunning scenery is all around—velvet-green moors, jagged mountains, timeless gray castles perched on lonely lochs. And each day brings a new adventure from meeting a Scottish laird to watching for Nessy in Loch Ness to tasting Scotland’s national dish, haggis. Cities large and small punctuate this well-rounded voyage, concluding with an evening in Edinburgh—time to shop for tweeds, kilts, and cashmere along the Royal Mile.

Type of Vessel

With only 212 guests, you begin to feel like it's your own private yacht almost as soon as you step aboard. The sitting area of your spacious suite gives you an expansive ocean view, making it a welcome retreat. When you're ready to make an appearance, the lounges, club, casino and library are waiting to be explored. Take some "you" time in the tranquil WindSpa, enjoy a dip in the pool, work off that decadent dessert in the Fitness Center and, of course, you are always welcome to visit the Bridge to examine navigation charts with the Captain. Star Breeze is large enough to pamper and entertain you, yet small enough to tuck into delightful tiny harbors and hidden coves that others can’t reach.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Copenhagen, Denmark: This fairytale city is filled with magical choices. Explore the harbor where Hans Christian Andersen once lived. Pay your respects to the Queen at Rosenborg Palace, or to the Danish Parliament at Christiansborg Palace. Find a feast for the eyes and food for the soul (and stomach) at Tivoli Gardens.

Days 2 & 3 | Oslo, Norway: Step off the ship into the center of Norway’s sparkling capital, just a short walk from the Nobel Peace Center, Radhuset (City Hall), and Aker Brygge (the colorful waterfront). Explore Viking history at the Viking Ship Museum or look up Edvard Munch’s The Scream at the National Gallery.

Day 4 | At Sea

Day 5 | Bergen, Norway: Colorful Bryggen, Bergen’s Hanseatic quay and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is so delightful you may find it difficult to explore further. But do. Watch the Huldras (forest nymphs) dance at Kjosfossen Waterfall, wander the narrow smau between the old buildings climbing the hillside.

Day 6 | Flam, Norway: A tiny town of only 500 residents, yet people have been traveling here from all over since the end of the 19th century. You’ll understand why when you arrive. Take one of the world’s most breathtaking railroad journeys up the mountain to gasp at the fjord below.

Day 6 | Scenic Cruising Sogenfjord: Cruise up the longest and deepest fjord in Norway – and possibly the most beautiful. At its deepest the Sognefjord drops to more than 4,265 feet with the striking contrast of the mountains rising to more than 5,570 feet. You will be able to enjoy the scenery long into the evening due to the late sunsets.

Day 7 | Lerwick, Scotland: The Shetland Islands may only have one town, and it’s small, but as you already know, good things come in small packages. There are seabird colonies and sea mammals galore, along with a windswept beauty that’s refreshing in its simplicity. History buffs can investigate 400-year-old castles or Iron Age ruins. Or meet the tiny ponies that share the islands’ name.

Day 8 | Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland: Stornoway is an important port for the Outer Hebrides where the economy is a mix of traditional and modern businesses like fishing and farming, tourism, the oil industry and Harris Tweed and loom weaving. Sites to see here include the Lewis War Memorial, the Neo-Gothic Lews Castle, the Stornoway Town Hall, Harris Tweed Hebrides Outlet, Lewis Loom Center and the Hebridean Brewing Company. One of the last working brick kilns in the UK produces Stornoway kippers and smoked salmon.

Day 9 | Kirkwall, Scotland: Everything about Orkney is olde, from the 5,000-year-old village of Skara Brae (the “Scottish Pompeii”) to the peat-distilled whisky at Highland Park to the UNESCO site of the Ring of Brodgar, dating back to 2700 B.C. Even the local brogue hints at times past, accented by the area’s Viking legacy.

Day 10 | Invergordon, Scotland: Here is your entry to Scotland’s spectacular Highlands. In Inverness, listen for the song of the Highlands in the sparkling gurgle of the River Ness as it winds through the town’s center. Look for a glimpse of the elusive Nessie in Loch Ness. And wait for whispers of Shakespeare’s Macbeth in the fairytale setting of Cawdor Castle.

Days 11 & 12 | Edinburgh, Scotland: From the Firth of Forth, a UNESCO site, to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh is steeped in history. Edinburgh Castle. The Royal Botanic Gardens. The UNESCO site of Old Town. The wonders of Edinburgh are never ending. From one of Europe’s best-preserved castles to the world’s longest herbaceous border, a riot of color and culture pervades. In this city as old as Scotland itself, you’ll find the perfect blend of historic tradition and natural beauty.
