Historic Old San Juan district, only 20-minutes’ drive from the resort, is the perfect place to discover the pleasures of local life. After fresh coffee and pastries in a café such as Caficultura or Cuatro Sombras, stroll along cobbled streets lined with brightly colored colonial buildings on the way to the colossal, 16th-century Spanish fort, El Morro. A walk around the fort's monumental fortified walls, set on a dramatic headland, will reward you with panoramic views of the bay.
Visit to El Yunque National Forest, where you can explore a glorious expanse of tropical jungle. Head to the El Portal visitor center, a scenic, 40-minute drive from the hotel, and ask the park rangers about the forest's hiking trails. Choose from gentle to challenging routes that lead you past tree orchids, giant ferns and spectacular waterfalls, or take it easy and drive to the Yokahu Observation Tower for fabulous views of the forest and surrounding mountains.
When night falls, San Juan comes alive with the infectious rhythms of salsa. After a reviving piña colada in the hotel's Q-Bar, head out to La Placita de Santurce.
